I've had a weird premonition over the last few months that I'd get into an accident over my lunch hour.
Low & behold I got rear ended in Meadowvale today making a right from Miss. Road to Erin Mills Parkway northbound.
He hit me on the right side of the bumper & the bumper is ok, it looks like it was pressed into the metal part underneat & you can see the outline pretty distinctly of two screws in the plastic bumper cover.
The guy stopped & gave me his info & I took down his plate # too, just in case he gave me the wrong insurance info. He begged me not to go through insurance, but I might anway. To me its cosmetic & not a big deal. I'm afraid that MY rates will go up...
Anybody know how much this sort of thing costs??? I'm assuming that only the plastic bumper cover needs to be replaced...then again, I could be wrong...

That's what I'm thinking...

its a small fender bender...ask him to just pay for the cost and not go through insurance...this way both u guys win...just my opinion...

Yeah do you both a favour and stay out of the insurance, however get on it quick. as if he changes his mind and decides not to pay you need to let your insurance know asap.

Re: (Sawdust)

yeah i'd get him to pay, but pay noW!! like get a quote tomorrow and call him tomorrow....
but beware.. my car was in a fender bender, it needed a fender, and bumber, and a headlight.. ended up costing the insureance just over 3000 dollars!

but it wasnt my fault so the other guys insurance paid for it.

Re: (dancdas)

guys
weather its YOUR fault or NOT,
insurance looks at it as a CLAIM
so even if he did hit you, you're still claiming damage, that insurance has to pay for, in return increasing your rates.
tell him to give you $1000.00 and call it a day
tell him 500 for the bumper and 500 to respray everything

Re: (mirek)

exactly. getting rear ended is always 100% fault of the driver in the back. (unless special, prove-able circumstances with witnesses say otherwise).
either get 600-700 cash from this guy NOW, or do insurance. it always costs more than you think to line things up correctly and colourmatch bodypanels.

This is not true. I was hit and it was the other guy's fault. His insurance paid my deductible and my rates did not change.
If it clearly the other person's fault and they admit to it then your insurance company will make his company pay for the damages. I recently got a renewal for my insurance and it shows that I have not made a claim.

Re: (tobyc)

Since you are not at fault, your rates are not affected.
But if the guy was cool, you might as well go to a shop and get an estimate. Have him pay the estimate price. Then take cash to the shop and pay the "cash price' and pocket the difference.
Everyone wins, your car is repaired correctly, we don't have another insurance rant thread (LOL) and you gain a little "modding" money.
