I don't know of any forums, but I checked one out in person, and damn! these things rock! I'd say drive it and get a feel for it. They sure do look cool but make sure you like the feel of it before you buy it. Also take into concideration what you will do if a problem should arise. DMC12's aren't readily available, and not many mechanics will know how to work on the rear engined stainless steel beast.

I've heard that low-mile Deloreans are dangerous, as it's an indication of a subtle but serious mechanical problem, and the parts aren't readily available.
As far as I know (which isn't far, but still) most of the existing parts that are in good condition have been bought up by the few Delorean restoration companies.

My dad owned this DeLorean for a few years...

It wasn't very fast due to an underpowered motor and tall gearing, but it was kind of cool to drive.

DeLorean manufactured enough parts to last 10 years - or so I was told by a DeLorean owner. Finding parts won't be so bad. I think they use Volvo parts as well that cross over.
It is a great car for looking, but performance I am not sure about. I was told a 944 easily stayed with it, if not pulled ahead. How hard they both got on it, I dunno.
I would agree with the Ferrari recommendation. You can pick up a 308 for around 25K or even an old Bertone Styled Ferrari 308Gt4 for under 20. Ranging 12-15K probably. You have to like that style which many don't. But for that price it is still a FERARRI. The GT is actually a lot of bang for the buck.

Yeah, DeLorean has a Volvo Engine and I believe tranny and suspension pieces. I know a Volvo nut, has like 5 or so of them, 2 run, sound familiar? He's alway talking about getting a DeLorean.

I saw on ebay a guy selling one of the "back to the future" Deloreans replicas complete with flux compassator for about 15 grand. I remember driving past the original Delorean dealership in Bridgewater NJ and seeing hundreds of brand new Deloreans.

You should consider one of these:

Lotus Esprit Turbo, from the same era, for the same money, with the same look, but WAY more performance, better reliability and better parts availability. (Never thought I'd say that about a Lotus.)

I believe the DeLorean actually has a Peugout engine that was used in a few Volvo cars.

PRV-engine, Peugeot, Renault and Volvo developed it. It was even slower in US-form, due to the emission-crap.....

deloreans are seriously cool but have just about the worst engine ever made.. the PVR motor is downright scary. my dad had a volvo with that motor what a nightmare... when you pulled into the dealer for service you could see the mechanics run and hide...

Re: (sisiisis)

alright, well i drove about 3 hours to this guys house to take this thing out for a spin.....
damn...
its got a stage II kit, and the owner claims 193-197hp. he also let me drive the completely stock one he has, and it was defintaly better. it felt about the same as my 16v turbo gti... and it ran about low 13's in its street form. im guessing the car was somewhere under 14 on the 1/4 mi. the torque was great.
handling, its definately a bigger car, and doesnt quite handle like my gti. it handles more like a stock 4x4 golf, wich is still pretty good. a place out in texas makes a lowering kit for it, i might consider that.
overall car is clean and stock except for the motor
