Today I noticed a tapping sound just above idle, at around 800-900rpms. I further investigated and it sounds like it is coming from the upper right part of the engine(facing it) near the aux h20 pump. I'm either thinking timing chains or maybe a lifter, but it seems odd that only one lifter would be tapping and according to PO's maintenance records the chains and tensioners were replaced only 40k ago. I am out of ideas and would hate to think of spending my exhaust money plus some on the timing chains, any ideas?????????

Re: Another noise!! (markymark420)

i have no idea whats wrong with it, but you can help isolate the noise by getting a piece of wood dowel (or a broom handle, basically anything solid) and hold one end up next to your ear, and move the other end around your engine bay... you might be able to find where the noise is coming from. good luck

Re: Another noise!! (Anhizer)

I was thinking about doing that, but thought it would be hard to the difference between rattling chains and a chattering lifter with no more than a couple of inches seperating the two.
