Recent purchase of 2001 VW Golf. 137k on odometer. Automatic transmission. Car is slow to engage D when shifting from park or neutral. Shifts fine in all other gears.

Minor? or Major? Haven't checked fluid level yet.

Valve body fine. Drive piston is failing. Fluid and filter change boosted pressure just enough that transmission now engages most of the time. Recommendation was drive it till it fails and then get a reman'd tranny.
