Driving to work today I stopped at the gas station and noticed my Check engine Light had just came on, I checked my oil and other thing all OK, now my car is only about 2 weeks old and the only mod I have is a costum fitted AEM cold air, could it be that that hose that is conected to the air box (were you put the breather) is not getting vacum? I have had the intake for a week with no problems so it might not be that.
my dad does have a Vag-com for his car if I bump into him today I will ask him to take a look at it.

Being that you were at a gas station, did you check to ensure your gas cap was screwed on tight?
Silly as it may be, this has been known to throw your CEL.

What kind of filter is it? I have heard many many reports (including my own) that the oil from the K&N filters gums up your MAF if too much of it is applied. (which is even common when it is brand new)
If I were you, I'd put everything back to stock, take it back to your dealer, and be justifiably outraged!!

It might be something real miner. I had a check engine light in 500 miles which was a bad o-ring to emision system. Remember that the OBDII trips if you breath on it wrong!

If I were you,i'd never change my oil,put a chip in it,lower it,cut the exhaust all off, take off the air filter, and take it it and demand it be covered under warrantyDUH! There are well over a hundred possible causes for the CEL light to come on http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

As mentioned above, there are a lot of things that can throw a CEL. Everyone tells you to check the gas cap and wait 2 days to see if it clears. My CEL at 2000 mi was a temp sensor. My CEL at 5500 was a misfire on cylinder 2, no real problem found (may be gas related). Only way to find out is get it on VAG-COM or take it to the stealer.

Well now, that's a real helpful post. It's people like you who make other people afraid to ask questions. Be a little nicer sometime, and maybe one day when you have a question, someone will give you a decent response!
Oh and George Bush: I have a 2000 GTI GLX, and my check engine light came on twice. The first time, I took it to the dealer, they ran their scan tool, and came up with the following code. Fuel Trim Bank 1, Engine too rich, meaning my car was using up more fuel than necessary. This was caused by a bad connector to the Mass Air Sensor, so the dealer said. Well, a week after I got my car back, the light went on again. I go in tomorrow to have it checked out, and I'm betting you that it's a dead Mass Air Sensor, which is a pretty common problem with the MkIVs. We'll see. Also, do you notice a sulphur like smell( engine too rich) or a hesitation( engine too lean)? If you do, it's probably your Mass Air Sensor.

NO lie I do smell a wierd smell sometimes also when I instaled my intake I did force a piece and bent the Mass Air Sensor wire by the piece were it conects to the Sensor so its probably that.
