Re: 1.8T Cams (vwturboawp)

i never cam'ed a 1.8t but been told not to go that route.. bolt-ons are the easiest n most reliable of making extra HP/TRQ
goin internal on 1.8ts for power can be tricky, is there a list of recommended hardware/bolt-ons/software programming that is associated with these cams?.. if not, my guess is that your gona have to spend alota time under the hood perfecting the way it runs n drives.
questions:
* are you doing the mods urself or goin to a performance shop for the install?
* what are the reported performance gains with the cams?

Re: 1.8T Cams (vwturboawp)

As long as the cams are specifically designed for forced induction they can be a great upgrade. The issue, and why many people say no to cams on FI, is that many try and use NA cams.
Most NA cams increase exhaust overlap quite a bit, and in a FI car that will lead to bad things quickly. And make less power too boot.
I have used a specific FI cam in two turbo cars and been very happy, and surprised, at the results. So much so I will be using some Eurospec/Cat cams in my future upgrade to my GLI

First I will be installing the cams the motor is stroked up to a 2.0 with steel rods and carbon steel pistons. I just don't see the point in puttting the stock cams back in. I have different valve springs and stainless steel valves with bith intake and exhaust valves. With reprogramming my computer will alldata work? I don't know about the performance gains.

Re: (vwturboawp)

agreed, putting stock cams back into a motor with internal work done doesnt make sense. i wasnt aware of that ..
so, i suggest getting a REALLY good software tuner for your project/build-up that can write a program maximizing ur upgrades while also making the car reliable. to answer ur question, i wouldnt say that all software companies have something to offer you; ide say that the software would probably need to be customized to ur car/mods. just flashing/chipping the ECU using a standard 1.8t upgrade with ur mods would most likely be disastrous. you might wana ask the cam manufacturer who/or what they recommending using? also, what turbo set-up are you using?
Mike from Unitronic is great with custom and BT software applications -you might wana give him a call 866-341-2447 http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

1st you cant just stroke a motor and get 2.0L it cannot be done with 81.5bore..
2nd carbon steel pistons?
3rd. people are making well over 400whp on stock cams
4th alldata? is this a joke. alldata is an automotive repair manual for every car.
5th. what turbo are you running? is this a joke? if its not. god someone is going to make some good $ off you. oh and ive herd nothing but bad things about the eurospec cams. try to search around before buying. instead of posting after you have bought.

1st I don't have a 81.5 bore.
2nd Carbon steel pistons made by Presion Crankshaft, you really need to stay off the porn sites and do alittle more research before opening your mouth
3rd I plan on making tons more horsepower then the little 400hp
4th alldata is a joke it does have every repair manual, but it can also change every setting in the computer
5thGarrett Ballistic Series Ball-Bearing Turbocharger. I have been doing this for a living for 10 ten years now. And how do you know about eurospec smas if you never tried them, oh I am sorry you probably don't even know how to put a set of cams in a volkswagen. Go play on your porn site have fun not getting any.
