you don't have to swap the actual ecu, you can go to a distributor and have your existing one chipped/flashed or send it out.
you can however, buy a spare and have that chipped so you can swap when you go to the dealer. you'd also need a vag-com to erase fault codes. about $400 for the spare ecu & $2-300 for a vag tool.
