Pretty newb question,

I've cleaned my 1.8T engine off trying to locate where the oil leak is coming from.

Still cant see where.

Where do these engines typically leak from, and whats the worst case scenario for parts and labour wise?

Vavlve cover gasket is a cheap fix, other gaskets down below not so much?

It has 140,000kms on it

If its the top of the motor chances are its the cam chain tensioner half moon seal

Ah gotcha,

I guess there are about 10 different places oil could be coming out on those motors.

So many gaskets and hoses.....

Honestly, Im not to familiar with the 1.8T.

I know there is a valve cover gasket up top, but are there not a few other gaskets down below?

There are seals and gaskets and sealant and o-rings all over the place...

My favorite way to find leaks is with appropriate UV dye, a black light, and UV amplification goggles.

...but for you I'd recommend a bottle of degreaser, a rag, and some elbow grease.

Get rid of all the oil that's dripping. Then track down the fresh drips. Follow them to the source.
