Re: 1.8T vs. VR6??? pros and cons (surfcity21)

i'd imagine the 16v and 1.8t are pretty close to the same weight (i think), but there is probably a 100-120 pound difference comparing a 1.8t and vr6. VR6 is cheaper to do and initially has more power....but you'll get into the same argument every time you post something like this. VR6 will last longer since it's not forced induction......1.8t is cheaper to get more power out of....etc etc....just look for 1.8t or vr6 in the search...i'm sure there are a bunch of them

Aww..c'mon! Don't axe another 16v GTi! Those things are getting rare! Find a cheap 1.8 digifant Golf/Jetta, and do that. Please Please Please!
With that said, VR6s are relatively easy to come by. I chose that for my swap, mainly due to the fact that I knew I wasn't planning on turboing it, or doing anything MAJOR after the swap. I just wanted a fast, normally aspirated car, without a bunch of plumbing in the the engine compartment, Hence, my A2 received the VR6.
The 1.8T is somewhat cheaper to upgrade, and is prolly a bit lighter, but I can't remember how much. There is some more work involved with pulley clearances, if I remember Scooterman/Montana Green Machine's project. If I had the website for it, I'd put it here, but I can't remember. If you want a fast, reliable, out-of-the-box car, I'd say the VR6 is great, but the 1.8T may be the ticket if some upgrading is in your future. You know the old saying, though...Speed costs $$$, how fast you wanna go??

I dunno how rare they are, but I bet montana green 1.8t's & VR6's are even more rare. I wouldn't alter your thinking of the swap just to save a 16v...You could sell it to someone for a swap or keep it for a later time.
