Re: $10,500 Rocco? (GLi_Luva)

With no pics it's not worth a plugged nickel!
as in could be 15k 1/4 mile at a time!

Craigslist slays me...you want someone to buy your (pretty expensive) car...but the advertiser is a lazy -ass. No discription, no pics, no reason to buy or contact at all. FAIL on the ad.

I believe that one is also on the SAMBA for that price

There is piccs there tho!

It's the same guy. (Same Phone number)
I want those wheels

This guy needs to know how to take decent pictures if he is gonna ask that price

Re: (wheeltowheel)

I seem to recall this car for sale in the past, and I don't remember why I passed on it then.
If it's for real, that'd be something!
The wheels and airdam are a matter of taste, so I didn't pay attention to that, but the white timing belt cover doesn't sit right with me for some reason.
That nice white 81 with 51000 miles is still on the Samba, and the price is "down" to 7900, still too rich for me.

I figured that this was the same car listed on the Samba as there's gotta only be one guy crazy enough to ask this kinda money for one.

Then again there was the $20,000 Scirocco that literally was driven of the showroom floor and that was it, IIRC.
This guy's pictures look like ****, he's never gonna get what he's asking.....

And why is it on the Bay area craigslist if it's in SoCal? Fishy, fishy, fishy. And no pics.

Ok.. found it and the crappy pics on the OC craigslist at: http://orangecounty.craigslist....html

Is it just me, or do I see dings in the fender from here?
$10k = no dings like that.
And why won't he pop the hood, or show the rear end?
(edit)
With a little help he could sell that car.
A better camera, taken at dusk in the Golden Light, from a better angle, min prerequisite shots:
- Engine Bay in full light.
- Dash and center console area.
- Rear End 3/4 shot.
Need some pedigree, some provenance, some human interest angle. (If it wasn't so far away I'd be pricking his ears w/ an offer to commission the sale for him.)

that car had less than 1000 miles on it, and was sold back to VWoA for 20k

If any of those Wall Street firms were smart they would have asked for 2 trailer's worth of Mk1's when they were cheap, held onto them, and sold them during times like this. I call it the Scirock Market

Re: (kenny_blankenship)

As someone who just recently sold a top-dollar Mk1 Scirocco I would have to say that there is a financial "line in the sand" out there when it comes to nearly stock cars like the one that is pictured above. While the unmodified versions are really hard to come by I personally think that there is a threshold of around $8,000 for the best of the later "S" cars and also around the same money for pristine early chrome bumper cars that have stock drivetrain, suspension, brakes, etc.
That being said I think that a lot of the wind has been knocked out of the sails of the muscle car market with the downturn in the economy and people who combine their enthusiasm for cars with their enthusiasm for investments are going to be looking at the lesser-saturated markets like some of the late 70's European cars since the market is thinner and the price of buy-in is less.
My 2 pennies.

Barrett-Jackson is one of the worst things to happen to pricing of one's vintage Detroit iron. A relative of my girlfriend owns a hot rod resto shop in Illinois and was telling me what his 32 Ford really is worth on the open market, and not just on Barrett-Jackson. All it is, is a bunch of Texas oil tycoons riding in with bottle blonds under their arms and a full 'script for Viagra in their glovebox.
