I own a 2001 12v VR6 Jetta and it runs great, only thing is recently I have noticed some suspicious noises coming from my motor when I hit around 2000 rpms-2500 rpms. It sounds sort of like a vibration and rattling. At first, I thought it may have been just some exhaust issues, but I decided to look into it and people say what happens is that guide rails on the timing chains sometimes break. This means that I should just replace my entire timing chain setup because my motor has 143k miles on it. I am by no means a qualified mechanic, but i'm sure I could do them myself, but it would take FOREVER. So I looked into shops near me and they are quoting insane amounts of money I don't have. I guess what i'm trying to say is I need some help from vw locals in the new england area who'd be willing to help me out for a decent price or even just help me install them.
