I feel I have to comment on my 1,600 miles and ownership of my R32, as you guys seem to be in a quandry about waiting.
Believe me the wait will be worth it, total!, I waited 7 months here and never once thought of changing my mind or what mods it needed.
The car is a purpose built "R" it is not just tweeked here and there, there is such unison about the wole package, It is not just a big engine, with awd, it is all mated to work in harmony, from the mighty power to the stopping abillity, to the handling to the look, it is an awesome unit, ther is no worrying about if the power upgrade on a modded car will affect the braking ability, or how long will certain parts last due to modifications, or infact how safe is a modded car.
This purpose built monster is all you need, infact it has 4th gear, yep 4th gear, very much like 2nd gear in other golfs, with the exception that you will get to just over a 100mph in the R32's. From 35mph in 4th is how power should happen, without fuss, no scream, no wait, no need to change gear, effortless.
With the R32 you also have that air of quality inside and out, and that sound of quality too, from the cabin quietness at speed to that magical v6 growl, awesome.
Keep it above 2500rpm and the boom subsides into a purr, but the purr is always at the ready.
In the wet it is something else, you drive without fear, Our limits happen quicker than the cars, mild 4 wheel drift is quickly corrected by the cars brain, so much fun, nothing can keep up with it in the wet, unless it is a 4x4 with balls, and a driver with bigger ones. Traction in the wet is truley fun, never any hint of wheel spin, even on damp greasy bits of road, just floor it and experience take off, anything else I have owned would be scrabbling for grip, whilst the R32 is gone into the distance, you have no chance.
Even on straight roads, you know you have the power to get near to 155mph, again without fuss, need very big balls for that one.
This is only the second golf I have owned, my first was a 1981 mk1 1.6 gti,I have owned many cars over the years, last one was a Celica 190bhp, or GTS in the states, quick?, I thought so, untill of course this blue thing turned up.
Nothing compares (sinaid o connor), it is awsome fun all the time, from tootling along town roads, to giving it it's all,
Wait and enjoy!!!!!!!!

Re: 1600 miles of ownership (lenswerks)

I think it is always a good thing to write about the experiences of something I own and able to pass it on for people waiting, Be sure if there is negative things to be said , they will be said, currently it is all about a daft grin, and the wanting to be a part of the feeling of this car, ok, I can feel it every day, it will just make you want it more, it is getting closer, as you all know,
I can't wait for you guys to get it now.
