Re: 16v with 10-12PSI, avg hp at the wheels? (OttawaG60)

hard to say an average,it has a lot to do with everything from combination of parts to tunning, there was a 16vT a couple years ago that did 312 to the wheels on only 10 psi,but that was some expirienced people with some really nice parts.I guess an average would be closer to ~225-250 range isn't an un reasonable goal.

225-250 whp as an average for 10-12 PSI of boost, that's a decent number.
Those are for stock 16v's?
If there were mods to be made, what would be your suggestions?

quote:

The rods on a 16v are known to be the weak point. A safe route maybe 8psi.

I was told by several people that the rods are good to about 400 CHP. That's why you don't see many people wasting $1k on aftermarket rods for their motors. Just a thought. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 16v with 10-12PSI, avg hp at the wheels? (killa)

16v rods are good for 80Bhp each, making total of 80*4=320Bhp. This is for stock rods. Audi S2 rods are good for up to 120Bhp, they are excactly the same size as 16V rods.
Two reasons why 16v's rods are weak: the material is not as strong as in S2's rods, and because they have oil galley inside!!

H-profile rods like the one in this picture are good for 100-120Bhp, and costs only about $100/pcs
(The pistons are for Aircooled VW)

Not all 16v rods have the oil galley in them.

just wondering where you came with the 80hp/rod theory, care to tell us more about it? If it was a book then i'd be highly interested in reading it, feel free to let us know more about it.

I just happened to have etka in the drive.
RS2 1996
027 198 401 C Rods
048 105 425 bolts pressed in
048 105 427 nut
053 105 431 B bush
035 198 421 thrust washers
034 198 491 c crank bearings
034 105 701 rod bearing shell lower
034 105 701 b rod bearing shell upper
Shouldn't be too hard to get.

killa: The rod info is from MTM's experience, I can't verify it any way.
Hardcore VW: All the Golf2 16v rods that we've seen have the oil galley inside, but then again, we don't have _any_ experience on US rods & engines, just euro stuff.
