17in rim offset

732 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  rockin16v
I'd like to put 17in rims with 205/40-17 tires on my Scirocco 16v. The car is lowered appproximately 1.25 in. Can anyone tell me what minimum rim offset is needed so the tires will not rub the springs? Thanks!

Re: 17in rim offset (jjw001)

What size, 17x7 or 17x7.5? AFAIK, a 35mm offset on a 7.5" rim would be okay and a 38-42mm offset on a 7" rim should work. Keep in mind that not all offsets are created equal. It seems that backspacing sometimes can deviate a few MMs between manufacturers. What rims you thinking of & what are the offset options?
BTW, be prepared for the besiege of responses telling you not to get 17s cuz THEY dont like em...

Re: 17in rim offset (LimeGreen79Rocco)

i'm running 17x7.5 wheels, with 40mm offset.
it rubs like a mofo over huge bumps, but if you have a good suspension setup (on the way) you really shouldn't hear/feel it rub.
and i also plan on shaving the insides of the flares so i can dump it. i say go for it, but, like andre said, that won't be the general consensus of everyone in here...

I'm looking at a Toora T940 in 17x7x35mm offset, Stilauto SR300 17x7.5x35mm or a Stilauto SR500 17x7x38mm. What does everyone think...open for suggestions. One of my Scirocco's has Borbet 16x7.5x 35mm and have experienced no rubbing.

T940 definately http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
SR300 looks too much like the A4 17" wheel

SR500 best one so far! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 17in rim offset (LimeGreen79Rocco)

Kinda off topic but any of you here had problems stopping without the 16v brakes with these big wheels?
Should I use the 16v brake booster, 22mm master cylinder, and rear disc as well or the non 16v should be fine?

Re: 17in rim offset (GTI_Andy)

My 17X7 Konig Tantrum's have a 40mm offset, the front tires only rub on the wheel well on steering lock...
Re: 17in rim offset (PA 16v)

the most i would go is 38mm on the rear.
i have 38mm onthe front, but i would like (ideally) somewhere around 32 or 33mm.
