180hp 1.8T or 200hp V6 camaro....who would win?

who would win?
My girls mom just got an automatic 2002 camaro V6, I drove it and was like, what the heck is this piece of crap, my gti would stomp it!
what do you think?

Stock v. stock, I think it'd be pretty close. The V6 Camaros have 200hp/225lb-ft. That's a good bit more than a stock 1.8T which only has 180hp/174lb-ft. But, the Camaro weighs in at about 3500 lbs while the GTi weighs in at about 2950 lbs. That's a huge weight advantage in favor of the GTi.
I think I'd go with the 1.8T... I've seen 12v VR6s walk away from V6 Mustang/Camaro/Firebirds before. And those are weaker and heavier than the new 1.8Ts.

It made me sick to see all the neighbors and kids drooling over this P.O.S. camaro, and my car was sitting right there with no attention at all........so all i could say was.....PLEEAAASE ALL OF YOU! GET IN THE CAMARO AND FOLLOW ME TO THE TRACK!

camaro is an automatic too.....see actually my gti is at about 185 or 190hp

Dude we are talking about an AUTOMATIC V6, i drove it, its slow, i guarantee i would smoke it, plus i just hate camaro's ok!

The v6 f-bodies are the sorriest turds ever conceived. The v-6 races so popular due to the abundance of the cars are hilarious to watch, everyone racing is running 16 seconds and up, and the drivers usually suck badly, the ones intrepid enough to actually drive a manual grinding and misshifting. The 1.8t's got this one easily.

V8's are another matter...but the V6 stangs and Camaros are really quite awful cars...some run like 9 second 0-60's...can you believe that?
The 1.8T is not the fastest car in the world, but it would destroy a V6 Camaro with a little good driving.

This statement couldn't be anymore off base. Throwing numbers around is great and all but real world is where it counts. Before my 2000 GTI 2.0 became turbo i raced my buddies V6 Camaro w/flow masters almost everyday. I had intake/exhaust/chip at the time. I would burn him in 3rd gear every single time we raced. His car was an automatic also so you can't blame driver error. I would also race by friends Firebird very frequently and he would get me off the line and lead me by a little up until about 100MPH where i would pull him by about 3 or 4 cars. Like someone else stated the V6 f-bodies are absolute turds and have trouble breaking out of 16s. I'm not saying you couldn't make one fast, but stock vs stock, the GTI will hand him his ass without a struggle. Thats my story, and i'm sticking to it

Easy

Easy win for the GTI
180hp for 2950 lbs= 16.4 lb/hp
200hp for 3400 lbs= 17.0 lb/hp
Also, American slushboxes are horrible on power transfer, drivetrain losses of 18-20% are not uncommon. Meanwhile, it is known that VW underrates flywheel hp, or has excellent margin of drivetrain loss, both in manual and tiptronic guises.

First, just look @ both cars. The camaro is one of the nastiest American Muscle cars alive. And second, the weight.
And even if the GTi lost to a Camaro, its not going to make u want one lol

Has ANYBODY actually raced a Camaro with their GTI or are we just going to sit around and quote horsepower/lbs-ft of torque figures all day.

How about a GTI vs my Yamaha R1? Oh wait it would be my R1. How about my R1 vs a rocket sled. Um, the rocket sled. This is boring. Go buy a back issue of Road and Track and be done with it.
