Re: 18's on an MKIII Pics anyone? (Don't Have One)

you'll be a pioneer with those wagon wheels,
...i'm running 16x7.5 and 225/40 tires and i have to roll the fender to lower the car otherwise it will rub if I try to get rid of the gap. it can be done, but i think it would need some work to look nice.

Re: 18's on an MKIII Pics anyone? (VR6roar)

you have to roll fenders with 16x7.5's ? Are you sure about that? I'm not lowered right now, but that's next on the purchase list. How funny will 18s look on my car without it being lowered?

he is running 225 tires, that will need rolling for sure, as long as you run 205 you should be fine, you MIGHT be able to get away with 215, not sure, but gti2lo is running 18's on his car, and it looks amazing, and astroboy also runs 18's on his car (he is never on this forum anymore) anyways they look awesome, but mind you, avoid all railroad tracks and stuff, unless you intend to push your car over bumps, oh yea...
IT WILL LOOK FUNNY if you dont lower it...everything looks funny that way..

I've got 18's on my GTI. No problems with with rubbing. I would like to lower it some more though. Neuspeed Sports just not cutting it. I'm running 215/35/18 P7000's on a TSW Spirit 18X7 rim 40mm ET.
I don't have any place to host any pics. I can email some to you.

The only reason you have to roll your fender is because you are running a 225

You should have no problems with 18's on your car. The key is you have to compensate for width of the rim by decreasing your offset because with a wider rim your back spacing in great, therefore you will rub the suspension. Also you have to be carefull not to run a offset that is too low because then your rim will protrude and rub the fender. It is a delicate balance.
Key offest and widths comonly used
18x7" 42mm 215/35/18
18x7.5" 38-40mm 215/35/18
18x8" 34-38mm 215/35/18
With the 8" rim you will ahve to do massaging of the fender to geta good ride hieght. Also regardless to width you will rub the fenders a little if you don't roll the fenders. I suggest you use the baseball bat method and then touch up the cracks the paint with paint. I personally got it done when I got the car painted so they took off the fender and hammered it flat and then sprayed with undercoating.

I agree with mike on this, Definately won't fit.
And why yes, those are 18x8.5 Rims and 225/35 Rubber.
Just prepare for tons of rubbing if you get it wrong.
