I've looked around but cannot find a release for the rear seats. Any help is appreciated.

open the trunk. on the driver's side there is a knob - pull it and leave it out. then between the edge of the back seat and the plastic trim (on the same side) there should be a plastic loop. it may be broken off - bend the uphostery gently to find a metal lever - pull it forward. or - crawl in your trunk to see it all work.

I found the knob to release the back seat "lock", the release loop was also broken so I fabricated one from a spare Rabbit Coupe B-pillar hand hold.

my strap is a large zip tie and it works.
I like the idea of using an old VW strap though
it just sounds so much nicer than my black zip tie
yanker.

Thanks. I only drive her in the summer. I use to have a 1984 Rabbit that I drove in the winter, but her clutch went and we sold her last month. The Cabbie is her replacement
