Yeap those are relays. You will just have to trace down the wires and see how he wired them up. I would guess he just put a switch in the power side. Trace them down and see what you come up with. They might just run down to the relay.

he has the wires plugged into fuse slot 1 and fuse slot two the left and right lighting fuses! i am afraid to pull them and put fuses in i dont want to overload.

Is there a fuse in the slot at all? This doesn't sound good at all. Sounds like the previous owner was a dumb ass. It sounds to me like he took the power right off of the fuse panel and put a inline switch in. This did away with the fuse. If you had a problem this way your wires would burn up and not blow a fuse like normal. I say all you would have to do is pull all of his wiring out, switch and all. Then put in a properly sized fuse. To make sure you might look behind the fuse panel and make sure no wires were cut.

how do i get behind the panel that is exactly what i am looking at plugged directly into the fuse panel so how do check behind it?
Re: 1990 golf with daytime running lights!!!!!! (idrthrBgolf'in)

I think the panel sits on two pins. One on each side. Not really sure. But I don't think it is all that nessecary now that I think about it. If the previous owner was foolish enough to plug the wires directly into the fuse socket then I wouldn't think he would have took the time to make it look decent and be safe. You should be ok without having to get back there.
