So ive taken apart the majority of the head unit on my 1993 Passat maked "VW
Premium Audio" trying to get the face off so I can fix the stop/eject
button. The thing is is that there seems to be some sort of retention
mechanism at the volume knob that i cant figure out how to get it apart.
Does anyone know how to get the face off such a unit? Thanks.

I've removed the face from the radio on my 91. To get the volume nob off, simply pull it up so that the shaft is exposed then get a little flat head driver in there and twist it to pop off the nob.
As far as lamps go, they're a bugger to change. Simple little bulbs with wires attached directly to wires! You'll need to snip the wire and re-solder the new one in. A pain yes, but a good opportunity to replace with red LED's to make a MK4 appearance!

I've got a "premium Audio" deck out of my '94 GLX that I'll sell you for a decent price. Let me know
