1998 Passat 1.8T swap.

I have a 2000 Jetta 2.0. It's nearly paid off and already has a good amount of mods to it (some of which are permanent). I was interested in getting a Matrix turbo kit, but the GB fell through and now they're not sure if they're making it at all. I don't really want to go with ATP for a turbo and the Neuspeed S/C is ridiculously priced for what you get, IMHO.
There is a 1998 B5 Passat 1.8T not far from my house in a junkyard. It was totalled from the left side, looks like a semi hit it. The engine bay is slightly bent, but no motor mounts are broken. Engine, ECU, turbo, everything that came on the car is still on there, it's hasn't been touched since it landed in the lot. It has only 24,000 miles and started right up as soon as I tried it. The car has been there for 2 months. Which brings me to my question.
Is the 1998 B5 Passat engine a drive by wire? I can pick it up for a really good price and I'd like to get an engine that I can build up before installing it. Also, aside from different motormounts, how different would the mounting points be for the engine?
I know that I could simply buy a new 1.8T. But I'm doing this to avoid selling my beloved 1st new car, avoid DBW, and dealer hassle. Plus, I'd like to do another swap, the last one I did was an 16V into an A2 that had the 8v originally. Once built up a bit, I think it could be a really good project.

There were only a few years that the 1.8T was not DBW, and there arent going to many of them left in a few years. When your not afraid of DBW let me know.

Check under the engine cover and make sure is says AEB (AEB=cable throttle). IF you can get it for a good price go for it. Not many ****e have the luxury of seeing an engine start in a totalled car, so you know it's in damn good shape.
Then I wouldn't swap your 2.0..buy an a2 or a1 and do that. The 2.0 would make a great travel and daily driver car...then you could have the 1.8t for weekends or whenever you feel like going really fast
just my suggestion though

AEB it is.

vertigobora,
None of the engine mounts are going to matter to you with your Jetta so don't worry even if they are broke or damaged, you'll also need to convert your accesories to face the transverse positioning, use your existing mounts and brackets to do this.
One thing about this swap though, it is technically illlegal, you can not back date a car with a older motor. Seeming as how both motors are OBD-2 you can probably get away with this, there is no vechile inspection in Ohio correct? Only emmisions testing? You shouldn't have any trouble then, but for the record it is a felony. (disclaimer)

There is emissions, but there is not a vehicle inspection. I've looked into that already to see how Ohio views engine swaps. It's weird to think that swapping an engine could be (ahem) illegal.
