2.0 cold air..

2222 Views 22 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Steve-O Danger
ight well ive been looking throught the posts about swiss cheesing my air box and running a hose from where the flap used to be. but what ive been reading is that some people say taht swiss cheesing the fender side and front by the headlight actually draws in more hot air then the stock box, and 2 what ive been reading is that it gives no gains or benifits waht so ever? if so then waht is the point of doing it? maybe someone can help explain exactly if im gonna see any type of gain by cutting holes in my fender side and front and running a tube to my grill before i start 2 cut up my factory box to find that its actually hurting my car instead of helping it. thanks

Anyone???
Re: 2.0 cold air.. (vdubmk3)

I ran a hose from where the stock airbox goes into the fender down through that hole and looped it around to the little grille in the bumper. It worked the first couple times I drove it but after that It wistled kinda like a turbo. this was kinda cool exept I had a big loss in power at low rpms. I checked it out and my hose got pinched and there was about a 1/2" hole for air to travel that is were I got the wistle. I already had the K&N pannel so I was like what the heck. I jerked my air box and took the drill to it. IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!! and it seemed to add power over stock.
P.s. When the hose did work well I accellerated right through 100mph in 3rd!
It was sweet. I cannot do that with the swiss cheese.

nice, how did u run it throught hat hole did u have 2 move your charcoal canister? so ur saying i shouldnt swiss cheese it i should just do the flap and hose deal
Re: 2.0 cold air.. (vdubmk3)

I say you should jsut make your own homemade cai...cost me about $15. I've done the swiss cheese dealio and a couple other homemade setups but this one seems to be the best, I definitely get some pickup from 4000rpm and beyond. Pretty much what I did was go to Home Depot, buy about a foot of 3" cpvc piping, it was black in color. Then I got a 3" rubber hose connector, and also a 3" rubber 90 degree bend elbow that is made to accept the 3" cpvc piping. Connect the hose connector to the MAF and to the 3" pipe, run it to the 90 degree elbow which leads down the crevice where the charcoal canister used to be. Then connect about 5" of the 3" cpvc piping to the end of the elbow. The other end of the cvpc piping would connect to my 3" K&N filter which sounds badass...You gotta make sure you get the right size filter though, as the size in the space is not too big for a filter. I've got my KN part number here somewhere...I'll see if I can post pics of my setup later. Have fun and just be creative. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

here are some pics of my setup

after the 90 degree bend, there's pretty much 3" of piping and a KN filter on the end, so use your imagination

Did you relocate the charcole canister and the other thing in the way in order to fit the 90 degree bend trough the hole? If so you would you mind explaining how?

Re: (ryansjetta)

you can see the charcoal cannister there in the engine bay. Not that hard to relocate. Just go out and buy some hose the same size as the hose used, except buy longer strips of it. Move the cannister wherever you want (within reason) and re-attach everything.
Re: (Fixxxer)

I just finished making up a CAI out of nice polished aluminum. Looks beautiful and adds a nice growl. The car revs much quicker at higher rpms. Im looking to build another one if someone is intrested. It comes with a new K&N filter, 3" aluminum piping and silicone connectors. I'll try to get some pics of it when my brother gets back from VA.

How much are you asking for your work? I would make my way to CT from NYC if the price was right.

Bump FOR A GOOD PRICE ? Is it aluminum from the beginning of the intake tube or just continuing from the stock rubber hose ?

it's probably similar to eurosports aluminum race intake. i mean you still have to have the MAF in there somewhere.
Re: (zero.)

Its a silicon connector from the TB to 3" aluminum tubing to the MAF to 3" aluminum tubing to the K&N filter. I just need to load the camera software and I'ff get some pic of it on here.

i just bought an 88 accord for $800. thing runs awesome except it idles a little high in park. that comment is typical for someone who owns a mkiv. not saying that all mkiv owners are like that, but the majority that i have come in contact with are. hell, 3/4 of them don't even wave back to me when i see them on the road. it's like they think they have a bimmer or something...sorry for the rant, but comments like this guys are just immature. grow up.
