i read that the '99 2.0 and gti [gls] models had the same engine except for the cylinder head. has anyone replaced the cylinder head on their 2.0 with the gti head? was it worth it?
i am also wondering about the 99' gti exhaust as compared to the 2.0.

ALL mk4 2.0 engine heads are the same when it comes to port sizes and valve lift. There are minor differences in the camgears and other accessories but really not worth the trouble. There is no point to swap one stock 2.0 head for another.
If you want to make the 2.0 breathe better you have several options:
1. Camshaft with a higher lift and duration
2. Port and Polish
3. 1.8T head swap. The AEB head will bolt right up but you will need to replace the manifolds and the pistons/rods.
4. Go Forced Induction.
