2.0L 16V Cooling system help PLease

had to change the rad .. the old one was cracked .. and now we can get the air out of the block or the hoses. Nee tips that ppl have used that got the air out would be great .... by the way new thermostat as well..engine jsut keeps heating up and coolant wont stay down...HELPP PLEASEEE

The heat doesn't need to be on. There is always coolant flowing through the heater core in an MK2. Flaps are used to direct air over it or around it.
After filling the coolant, did you let the car warm up with the cap off and add coolant as it went down?

I had a VERY similar problem when I first got my 91 2.0 16v Jetta...
Ended up being the o-ring in the coolant reservoir cap had slipped out of place... coolant couldn't pressurize... coolant boils at a much lower temp unpressurized than pressurized... yadda-yadda-yadda

I pushed the o-ring back in place and drove it with no more problems. At worst, I'd suggest a new cap.
