2.0T or 1.8T

I have a few options. i ahve a turbo kit for my 2.0, and have used it for some time, but blew a turbo and took eveything off. I will finish the build up of my 2.0, or buy a 1.8t motor, cable throttle of course.
If I ran the SDS on the 1.8t, couldn't I just litterally chunk the 1.8t in there and not even worry about wiring, or an ECU?
I will run SDS in either case so let me know what ya think.
Help me out Billy.

You still would have to worry about the throttle body/throttle cable if it's a drive by wire 1.8T.
Re: 2.0T or 1.8T (G60Outlaw)

there's no replacement for displacement regardless of what anyone say...yes flame all you want...and there are more 2.0's then 1.8T's lying around in the yards...so don't worry about blowing up your 2.0...if you can find the 1.8T with the harness and ecu still in tact it cool and but those thing has so many sensor and gizmos...i think a 2.0T 16v would be even better if u gonna do a hard swap...IMO

There are people around Toronto running 10s in 2L 8V Turbo setups. I have no idea what they've done to make the motor make that much power but it's do-able. Stick with the 2L because all you need is a turbo. And if you decide to go the 16V route you just need a head and new turbo manifold. Lot's of options left for your 2L! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Who is running in the tens with a 2L 8v turbo in toronto ?? I would like to see that !!!!
... the fastest recorded time for a 2L 8v turbo I have seen was a 10.76 @ 132mph and that was in Jersey ... the fastest Canadian is that SEM car VR6 turbo ... which ran a 10.2 .. btw, its the fastest VW in the world now (in its category).
The fastest 2L 8v NA runs something like a 12sec. And in my opinion and experience your run of the mill turbo on an ABA is capable of 13s NOT 10s
but to stay on topic ... 1.8t == expensive .. if you find one cheap all the power to you .... 2.0 == dirt cheap ... WHEN you find one you can do some internal work with the money you saved then add the "t" . The "t" == somewhat cheap but also == lots o fun

multi valve heads get you more hp, but there' no replacemet for displacement. Go with a 2.0 with a 16v head, easy build up.
Re: 2.0T or 1.8T (troze1200)

If your running SDS it doesn't matter if you go with cable or DBW engine because you'll need to get a TB with a three wire TPS. A stock OBDI ABA throttle body will bolt right up to the 1.8T BTW. A 2.0 and a 1.8T with SDS will use the same sensors.

1.8t may be more expensive, but it is going to be a more reliable motor, plain and simple...its the new "tuner" engine...give it 2 or so more years and there should be 500hp 1.8t's everywhere! If you stick in the 1.8t, you are going to stick with the times. That motor only has better to come!

For the price that you'll spend to build up that 1.8T in order to get 500hp, you're better off with an ABA 16v turbo, more displacement, excellent rod ratio and you can build up the internals, dont think that you'll be able to squeeze 500hp with a GARBAGE K03 or even more pathetic K04 that people actually pay decent money to get.
An ABA with pistons, rods and a T3/T4 with the standalone should be able to produce as much hp as any 1.8T will ever produce.
Like Collin said: there's nothing like an extra 200cc's of displacement.

Re: 2.0T or 1.8T (killa)

it depends if you wanna do it now I would do a 2.0 cause you can find them cheap, do a rebuild and build the motor up for about the same price of a 1.8t and get a SDS
on the other hand a 1.8t with a turbo upgrade and some other work can be at 300+ hp with no internals mods, but the cheapest I seen a 1.8t for was 2500 bucks with no computer or assec. and no tranny
