This info is found other places but I thought since there is a lot of new jetta owners coming in lately that this is also a good place to give them a heads up about VAGCOM alternatives. VAGCOM is a $350 obdII connector and software offered by http://www.ross-tech.com/ that you would connect to a windows laptop to change some internal settings in your car. In my case I wanted to turn off the horn honking when the car is locked via the key fob. A OBDII bluetooth dongle can be used to connect to an android device, to use a $20 app called Carista. You can then change the settings via your android device and email yourself your settings, here is the raw email I received from my car(2015 Jetta 1.8T Sport) after I changed a few things:

Thanks for posting.

What ODB2 bluetooth dongle did you use to change these settings?

It looks like there are so many options and according to the carista site the dongle needs to be ELM327 1.4 compliant. Seems like there are so many fakes. Also don't want to spend $40 on the Carista one unless I have to.

This is the $14 OBDII Bluetooth Dongle I used successfully for my android device, I prefered it because it is the most compact dongle available: http://amzn.com/B00T5G53ZM

Once you have an OBDII bluetooth dongle installed also don't forget to buy the Torque Pro app for $5 for android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en, I use this app mainly to monitor boost and water/intake temperatures, but it does a lot of other interesting stuff too.

Finally, to find your OBDII port it is located below the steering wheel under the dash pointing down towards the floor, an OBDII port will always be within 3 feet of the steering wheel on any modern car.

Just finished mine.

The app was a little quirky on 2 separate occasions, once on my car and once again on my co-workers. It stated that the value could not be set or something similar but on the second try it saved the option.
It also listed DRL as disabled on both cars but they clearly were not.
Other than those I am a happy camper. Digging the needle sweep.

After trying 3 different adapters with my Galaxy S5 I finally found one that worked
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NLQAHS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_ZJCQvbN8WKVDH

I used the features listed on Carista on my 2011 TDI and most of them worked flawlessly. I have to say, for $40 it temporarily beats buying the cable. Eventually I'll drop the coin on one to do more intricate things but this is perfect for the little tasks.

I just got my dongle in today. Set up the needle sweep and windows control via long press on the remote. Nice for the heat down here.

Also, I did see the wink feature in my menu^

I can vouch this app works very well. I've had a elm327 for the last five years for torque, cheap one from ebay, and it even worked with that.

Was used on a 2012 GLI

Mine say no faults and I do not have any lights on so I do not know how well it does with that, and hope I do not need to find out anytime soon lol.
I just got this to play with settings mostly to get all the doors to unlock when I turn the car off. Once I get a trouble light I will be buying Vag-com.
