Re: 20 Questions for 90-92 GLI owners...or other 16V'ers (biznash)
quote:

1.) when i accelerate hard, i hear a kind of turbo-like sound from the rear-passenger side of the car. I guess that would be normal if it were a turbo, but.... Also, its a stock exhaust, so i guess it should be quieter than that.
1) Could be that you have some sort fo mod done to your air intake box, that would account for a noticeable "sucking" noise
2.) clutch seems to click about halfway up. With the car stopped, you can hear it click under the car, also. Is this a bad clutch or normal?
2) Don't know for sure, but mine doesn't
3.) Do all these cars rattle like hell when they accelerate in the 4 or 5 rpm range? All the plastic crap starts rattling like hell. i know my front motor mount needs replacing, so will this fix help that?
3) WElcome to the wonderful world of the MK2. Here's the deal, your car is a decade old, these cars were not built like vaults to begin with so yes little things creak and crack, etc. Just get an exhaust loud enough to drone them out. Its the noises that are louder than your exhaust you should be worried about
4.) do these cars overheat in traffic? I was sitting on a bridge on a friday and the temp was up in the 3/4 part of the dial and the check engine light came on. I turned o the heat and this helped, ut i've heard that these cars tend to overheat. Is this accurate?
4) Mine doesn't overheat, but you will notice the enigne temp will rise if you are stationary. This is because your engine is using hot air that is being stored under the hod of your car. When you're moving cool air blows through you rgrill and thus keeps the engine temp under control.
5.) Anyone checked the manual to see where to jack up the cars. It shows two flaps along the running board area (on the underside) that flip out exposing clear jack holding areas ... at least in the diagram. I swear my car does not have these. I just want to know how to jack it up without busting through some cheap plastic.
5) Behind those flaps there is a narrow ridge, if you have a VW jack you can jack it up on that ridge. If you are using a hoist or a different jack, there are raised falt spots that are to be used as jacking points. They're fairly obvious if you look under there.
