2000 - 2001 Paint Quality (please read)

I have a 2001 JETTA GLX Black since I've had the car its been getting these fine scratches all over it that show as WHITE scratches. The door handle area is scratched where you open the door down to the white and I bite my nails. I hate for people to even lean on the car because it will probably leave a scratch.
I've had 2 other VW's an 88 Fox and an 87 Jetta and the paint was much better.
I also had an 87 BMW 325 and the paint was like glass and tuff as nails.
My last car was a 1990 BLACK Toyota Celica GTS and the paint was of much higher quality.
I complained to VW and even met with a factory rep and the factory rep gave me a nice verbal "Hand Job" of B.S. about it being normal and Black cars scratching easy yadda yadda yadda.
I've going to it repainted, which will cost near $2000.

Am I the only one with this problem?????

Well to be honest, he's right. Black doesn't necessarily scratch more easily, it just shows the scratches more than another color. I've owned a black car before and it's an absolute nightmare to take care of. If you look at it the wrong way you get swirl marks.
Suffice it to say, having a black car means you should have some high $$$ wax and polishing equipment if you ever want it to look showroom fresh.

Most black cars I see have swirl marks (even toyotas). Use some 3M imperial hand glaze, then wax it.. the swirl marks should dissapear..

Have you waxed your car recently? It could be that wax is filling the scratches in your paint and showing up as white since you can't wipe it off.

Most of the other cars you had were painted in a less environmentally conscious time.
VW and a bunch of other companies are now painting cars with more earth friendly paints which are thinner and a bit less durable.

I have a 2001 Jetta GLS in Lagoon Blue that has a similar problem. The scratches are turning white little by little, but I will chalk that up to wax build up. There really isn't to much you can do. Hand wash your car and don't let your jacket touch the door when opening it!
