2000 Jetta VR6 vs Prelude

I raced my friend last night who has a 2000 Honda prelude(200hp stock) with a short ram intake and a 5-zigen exhaust, with stock rims and tires. I have a Cold air intake with a remus exhaust and custom piping, with 17-inch Konig Monsoons and brand new Dunlop Sport tires 215-45-17, that I put on earlier that day. I raced him about 5 times and I lost all 5 times. Two things I noticed ,even after disabling the ASR it would always kick in and he would pull away, is that because the tires are brand new. The thing is my car felt really sluggish. Also we raced a couple of times while on the go and he would still pull away. I've raced other Prelude's 1996 SR-V's and I have won against pretty decent drivers. What I want to know forget driving error, if both cars are run clean with the mods above can the Jetta take the Prelude?

Preludes are very good cars, performance wise and handling. My friend has a modified prelude and he beats me everytime we race.On first gear we are about the same but after that he starts pulling away from me.Stock VS Stock the prelude is faster and they are also pretty easy to modify.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone else have an opinion?

Interesting... Preludes have no bottom end, but rev up quickly. I used to thrash my friends 5th gen (the current/last one) in myy GT-S, and do so now in my 1.8T,m I'm not chipped, btw.

I raced a modded new prelude SH and even when starting behind him I was able to pull past him. We ran 3 or 4 times and I won everytime.

it really depends... our clutch is longer than most Japanese cars... i would suspect you start losing after first gear.. because he would have shorter gear shifting time...
