Hey guys I was just wondering where the new 2002 got the extra 30 horse power over the 2001s, Ive been trying to learn alittle about the 1.8 witch I have in my 2001 wolfsburg with aww,whitch im told increases the hp by 5,but the extra 25 is that just from an increase in boost or has there been internal changes to the engine ?. Thanks

from aww to awp (180 engine) the only proven difference is ECU tuning.
there were rumors that intake and exhaust had been modified, but nobody has come up with solid evidence on that front.

So basically get a chip and don't worry about it.

The recent issue of VW Driver stated that the difference is attributed to ECU tuning.

the aww motor is the newest version of the 1.8t, it is also the 180 hp version but was a rolling motor change for 2001( all wolfsburgs have them), but were still stickered at 150 hp through the rest of the year. the changes were not only in the ecu, but they also changed the impeller housing to the same size as the ko4(50 mm). that is where they got the 30 hp.

Since when were wolfsburgs 180 hp?--they are the EXACT same engine as ALL other AWW engines--the wolfsburg is NOT special in any way other than the wheels, seats, and other package related parts--which are nice extras but leave it at that

I can attest to what Playa says... no way my car is 180hp... (not yet at least
)
Both Wolfsburg's I drove were 150hp (mine and the test car)... the 180hp was a direct change for the 2002 model year (designated AWP). There was RUMOR that the AWWs had 180hp, but it just isn't true.

I second what Doublearon says

...the 'rolling change' for the wolfsburgs (and other 2001.5 cars was the change from the AWD engine to the AWW engine.)
