Why is the 2002 rated at 180 when the 2001 is rated at 150? What is the difference?

Better ECU programming?

Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (MKvw)

it was rumored that intake and exhaust changed, but it's basically just a boost change. (from aww-> awp)
Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (MKvw)

Maybe, anybody know for sure?
Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (MKvw)

Just about everything was changed.

ECU reprogramming. Double post much?

The 2001 have the K03 turbine with the K03 exhaust manifold(or something similar) and the 2002 AWP has the K03 turbine with the K04 exhaust manifold. And the ECU was upgraded and the transmission ration is different. But the AWW is actually rated at around 170 hp. It was stated on here awile ago the it was rated at 150hp to keep Audi buyers from going to VW, to keep from losing sales.
Why would someone buy the more expensive Audi A4 for performance when you could actually get a faster VW. That was stated on here before by someone, I think JettaRed, Maybe he will chime in.
But from what I know that is the only difference, and to be hones the AWP is faster but I have raced my friend in his WE AWW and I barely pulled on him. So I guarantee there is no 30hp difference. Definately closer to 10Hp difference.
Ron.
Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (RVs021.8T)

The AWW (and AWP I assume) housing is NOT the same as a K04. The compressor wheel might be similar (maybe even the same). AWP changes are, programming, POSSIBLY going back to the AWD exhaust (AWD DP = 2.25", AWW =2.0") and some funky sensors which do not allow you to just plug an AWP ECU into AWW car and make it run at 180hp
As far as anything else? Who knows...

just to clarify.... the 2001 AWW (my engine) has the same k03 / k04 compressor turbo that's on a 2k2 AWP engine....
Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (John A)

AWW rated at 170hp? I don't think so. Maybe more like 155hp. I dyno'd mine and got 138hp at the wheels.
Re: 2001 vs 2002 horsepower ratings (flanders)

i have also heard those 170hp rumors....i do not believe them based on personal experience on the street.. Cars that are rated a good 30hp more than mine (celica GTS for example) pull away like they are rated 30 hp higher(once they switch cams anyway). and besides so many people are getting the whp ratings between 120-130 which would equate to about 150 or so hp at the crank

i was talking to jolf the other day and he said the dynos for the awp's are closer to 200hp at the crank

flucuations can be expected....remember manufacturers take an engine and prep it and tune it so it runs perfectly THEN dyno it and release those numbers to the public.
