2002 1.8T TRANS BLEW AT 1000MILES!!!

Hi,
I bought my 02 Jetta in September. At 1100 miles on the odometer, as i entered my driveway, all of my trans fluid poured out. The dealer said an internal seal blew. Prior to the leak, the car would violently pull to the left during accel, and the differential would bind.
Anyways, the dealer installed a new tiptronic trans, which cost them 7500 dollars. Well, i get the car back today, and I started it on the lot, and there is a rattleing noise that comes from the engine. It went away after it heated up, and the tech said it was becasue the oil was sitting in the car and the turbo impeller was stuck. I didnt belive him.
I drove it home, and this thing doesnt have the power that it had before the trans problem. The shifts are all off, and the car just feels different! I started the car up after it cooled and it still makes this rattleing noise, but it later goes away.
Any Ideas what I should expect???
Thanks everyone

Yeah, im pretty mad, the car doesnt have the power or accel like it used to. The shifts are like weird, the power gets cut off for a while while it shifts.

interesting ... what dealer did you go to? i only ask because i bought mine at crestmont which is pretty close to wayne ... the service dept is shady there , if you can go to another dealer (newton motorsports, 3 county, trend) and see what they have to say. good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Bought it from trend and get it serviced there. Talked to cresmont, they wanted to rebuild the trans, probably because i didnt get the car from them. Trend had vw come look at it personally. They said the trans was assembled wrong.

the original trans wasn't assembled correctly or the new one?
trend has a pretty good reputation from fellow vortexers so i wouldn't be too worried about them working on your car . dunno what else to tell you, sorry

good luck! try newton motorsports if trend doesn't cut it http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

VW said the defective trans had the seal put in wrong. Trend is really cool, they did a good job putting everything back together, u cant tell, but there is a noise when u start the car like something is rubbing metal on metal. Almost like a grinding

Maybe it is your catalytic convertor heat shield? I know both cars I have owned ( olds and the Beretta) have done this on cold starts.

Thanks, I will tell them that, it sounded like exhaust, becuase after it heat for 30 seconds it dissapeared from expansion
Re: 2002 1.8T TRANS BLEW AT 1000MILES!!! (x15jq)

It makes me mad becasue like when I get in, close the door, turn the key, you don't hear the starter or engine at all.. later model Berettas are very quiet inside. However, that damn heat shield rattles for like 20 seconds and you hear it through the floorpan.

I'd say get somebody to start the car from you while you have the hood open and your head in there and see if you can locate it.
And then carefully witht he car in P and the Parking break on try the same thing and see if you can tell where it's coming from.
It could have been they knocked the heatshield loose on the CC. Because I know my old car used to do the same thing. And it only got worse as time went on.
I'd say give them 1 more chance. then find another dealership.

I have a 3.5 inch resonated oval tip on the back of my exhaust, a flowmaster, muffler, and solid bracketing, this translates to some vibration, but actually I think mine is getting better.

That sux. I hope that they fix your car's problem real soon. I bought by car from Trend and I have nothing but good things to say about my salesman Mark P. but I've never visited them for service (from NY). If they can't resolve this problem and get your car back to what it was, running 100% - then I suggest you try to talk to them or VWOA about replacing your car with a new one. I hope they're giving you a loaner too! Good luck.
