Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

If there is anybody in Arkansas, Oklahoma or Missouri, Rene says that if we have a GTG, Upsolute will come chip our cars. Any takers?

You may want to wait for GIAC to offer something!!

I'm waiting on Garret too, nothing against Upsolute.

Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

Is this the chip for the 1.8T or the V6? Or are both chips available? What are the HP gains?
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (jwwight)

We can chip either, the 1.8T will rate at 215 Hp and 240 ft/lbs of torque

Valois,
Have you guys got it all worked out? Any major problems?
Can you give some more information like price, whats included(i.e different options like valet, stock, etc)?

Price is $325.00 it includes the chip, most distributors charge $25.00 to pull the ECU and reinstall. The only company I know that has a valet program is APR. Jim will open the door to your car when you get there though.
We will be happy to tuck you back into the car when finished.

Valois - I am pretty new to this chipping thing. Can you explain how it works - I mean like what actually changes or happens? And does it reduce the reliability of the engine or cause premature wear? And for the life of me, why doesn't VW do this as stock?
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

Any dealers in the Denver Colorado area?
Is this a socketed chip? I'm worried about my dealer not honoring my warranty.
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (RyanFD_1.8T)

We just set up a distributor in Denver, contact [email protected], he will put you in touch with her. We can socket, but really prefer not to. We will return your car to stock free of charge at your request. Sockets and additional circuitry on the ECU is not reliable.

BBear, the software of your engine management system (ECU) is changed, the MAPs for requested boost , timing and fueling are changed. There are a variety of reasons why VW does not do it from the factory. They are dealing with a wide variety of clients, insurance rates, increased maintenance requirements, less room for error. The driver has more to do with the longevity of the car at this level of power. If you perform maintenance properly, do not rag the car at every opportunity, it should not negatively impact the lifespan. That said understand that this is a relatively new model, and it has not been proven on this model that chipping will not reduce longevity, we would need to see how these cars hold up 4 or 5 years down the road in comparison to an unchipped model. Generally those that chose to chip are enthusiasts, and take better care of their cars than the general public.

Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

I'm waiting till APR comes out, does the 2002 1.8T passat have the same fuel delivary problem that we 2002 a4 owners are having???
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

Valois,
Thanks for the info, I'll email the lady that you refered me to.
Is there any way that a dealer can detect the chip, other than the noticeable power gain?
I know other chip companies install a socket that's easy to see.
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (RyanFD_1.8T)

Just using the scan tool in the garage, no, if they take the car for a ride, while scanning boost it will be observed. Not very likely to happen unless they are looking for the chip, or for a boost problem.
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

Valois,
Very cool, thanks for the info. I was just worried about a visual inspection seeing it.
Sounds like I'll have it installed next week!
Worst case if they try to deny a claim I'll just return it to stock and bring it back to them.
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (moonturban)

Does the 02 Passat engine show the same fuel problems that our 02 A4's are having??
APR has acknowledged this and is having difficulty with their chip. Or does the 02 Passat use the same engine that the older passats and 01- 96 A4's used??
Re: 2002 B5 Chip now availible (Valois)

Valois,
What are the HP and torque gains for the V6?
And do you have a distributor or installer in Washington State, specifically Seattle Area?
