Scanned with VAG-COM and got 2 faults

1 Fault Found:
000291 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69): Signal too High
P0123 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
Readiness: 0000 0000

and

1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory

It has done it a few times now. EPC light and traction control light both come on and the traction control button lights up OFF. Engine seems to be running on 50% power or less. Power seems closer to normal below 3k rpm but is very low on power above 3k rpm.

I park the car, it sits for a bit and then when I drive it again power is restored, shortly after the EPC light and traction control light turn off but CEL comes on. Shut the car off and drive again and eventually the CEL clears too and all is back to normal.

Any ideas?

There is a TSB for several throttle related faults on the 2.0T engines. It involves replacing the wiring and connector at the TB. I have a note here with the TSB number listed: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17953/P1545/005445

Please post the complete Auto-Scan so I have enough detail to create a Wiki page for the fault you have.

Take a look if you dont have a coil that is popping out of its hole.
If not you could inspect them anyway and look for arcing. Clean your throttle body ( never hurts )
then perform the TSB.
Just got a call back from the dealer. They had recently performed the ignition coil TSB and one of them was loose.

You called it. Going to pick it up after work.

vw151,

Nice update! I'm working on the Wiki page and I can toss that note in there.

Bahltech,

Do you think the 5 faults included in the VW TSB (01-09-04 or 2018652 - wire harness extensions at TB) are all related to feedback through the coil circuits, or just that one, based on your real life experience?

Thanks,
Dana
