New Jetta owner here. A couple weeks ago I bought this car for my wife at the dealer, bought a 3yr warranty with it. The Jetta is an awesome car, it is fully loaded with just about anything you'd want in a modern car. The only thing was I didn't plan on getting addicted to HER car lol, I've got the VW Virus now and have all kind of plans in store to modify this car. I love the car so much in fact I am in the process of locating my own 2016-2019 VW Golf GTI or 2015-2018 Jetta GLI with the 2.0TSI Motor. Back in the mid 2000's in my late teens/early 20's I was really into boosted Honda's, I had a Turbo prelude with almost 400HP, a Civic Si Hatchback with a Boosted B18C1 GSR Motor making 380HP, A boosted RSX Type S w/ over 370+HP and the last boosted car I had was a brand new 07 Dodge SRT-4 that over 300+ HP with minimal modifications. I've always been in to boosted 4cylinder motors and buying this Jetta 1.8T sport has reignited that passion inside of me, so much so that i'm about to buy either a newer Golf GTI or Jetta GLI within a week or so giving us both new VW's, I think i'll end up going with a White Jetta GLI on Black pleather with red stiching.

Now to my questions. VW lists the Jetta sport 1.8L Turbo motor at 170HP and 184tq but i've read several different articles that point out VW was extremely modest with that rating. I've seen All stock MK6 Jetta's post Dyno numbers in the high 180's to low 190's in horsepower for that engine. On 93 octane APR says they dyno tested the 1.8 Turbo at 191HP and 203TQ, Which I take as them talking about it making 191 Crank HP not 191 WHP or I am wrong and it is WHP? I to think this motor has 190+ HP in stock form because i've raced a few different cars in this thing that i've pulled on with ease that have more than 170HP. A friend of mine has a new Civic Si 1.5L turbo and from 20-100MPH I pulled him by a full car and his stock Si turbo ran a 15.4 a couple weeks ago.

In terms of mods I have a handful of parts on order and an appointment at Godspeed performance in Phoenix to get this tuned with a stage 1 APR tune. I ordered an APR full cold air intake, CTS Down Pipe and AWE Catback exhaust, Neuspeed Turbo charge and discharge coversion pipes, NGK performance spark plugs to properly run the APR tune, A boostguage that mounts right on top of the steering wheel, CTS Dog Bone transmission insert and a diverter valve. Asking around I should be able to get roughly 30 extra HP from the parts alone, last thing i'll do is order her a bigger FMIC to ensure all of this extra air stays cooled. I'm hoping for it to make about 270 once this is all installed. I planning on installing it the day before the tune.

My last question is are all of these mods really hard on the Automatic transmission these cars come with? I've heard of APR tunes destroying clutch's in GTI's and GLI's and heard it's recommend that you install a performance clutch BEFORE getting the tune, is it just as hard on the Automatics or so as long as you take care of them do the Auto's hold up well? If they do hold up well I'm thinking i'll just get an Auto GLI as they shift so well in manual I don't imagine the 6spd's having much of an advantage at all in a race, and if they hold up just fine I can save 1,000 dollars not having to pay for a performance clutch to be put in if I just go with an Auto . Thanks a lot for your guys time and I look forward to getting some feedback, Thank You.

The auto should be able to handle stage 1. If you're looking for a mk7 GTI or GLI and want to tune it I'd recommend getting one with the performance pack differential to put the power down.
