So it looks like the 2018 Beetle will be getting the new engine from the Tiguan but slightly detuned based on the below listing from Canadian VW dealership web page.

http://www.mississaugavolkswagen.co...pact- - -automatic-front_wheel_drive- - .html

The Tiguan gets the 184bhp engine with 221ft-lb torque to handle off-road and 4 Motion duties of the new 8 speed transmission, but the 2018 Passat and 2018 Beetle gets the new 2.0T at 177bhp, and 190ft-lb torque along with the old 09G automatic transmission. :banghead: So just updated engine, detuned to match the O9G transmission, instead of the higher power matched to the new transmission.

The 09G transmission needs to go to pasture. Its fine for farting around town, but thats is.

I totally agree. Although in the Passat it actually shifts pretty decent. Some not so initiated folks thought it was a DSG. If anything they need to make it handle more torque to match the Turbo engines. Its pretty lame to have to detune a engine to get a little more life out of the transmission. Even the Alltrack uses DSG with the 1.8T.

compared to my old '18 Audi Q5 transmission, the 09G is a lot smoother. No more shuddering when slowing to a stop.
