I think the front bumper will look like the GTI minus those 5 led. In these pics look close and that white part the top has what looks like two painted screws. Just holding that plastic diagonal in place
My Golf AT/6MT is a great car. Love it. Seats and sunroof... Not so much. My sunroof leaked a few times, but has somehow fixed itself and hasn't leaked in over a year.
I've realized that I don't need a sunroof. I haven't opened the one in my AT more than five times in the three years I've owned. Coupled with, but greatly outweighed by this, is the fact that the sunroof design is flawed, terribly flawed and I'm not willing to take the chance again.
Looking forward to the MkVIII Golf R. Should "land" about the time I'm ready to get a new car, but it's going to be a tough choice.
With the price of the Tesla Model 3 Performance dropping every 3-6months, it is well within striking distance of the Golf R, at least if VW opts for a moderate price increase over the existing model. If that's the case, it'll be difficult to overlook the performance gap between the M3P and the R.
We'll see though... I really like the idea of driving and EV, but the "fun factor" of the new R with a 6MT might be too much to ignore.
So, it isn't a desirable performance vehicle if it doesn't make noise? VW still has to comply with the EU sound regs. I never drive with the windows open, so I wouldn't hear it regardless.
I hear you as we got a few VR6s and a reason why I can't get rid of my MKV. However, reality is that putting a VR6 back in the Golf R has less than 1% probability of happening (not accurate % but an arbitrary number to represent that it won't happen again  ). In all likelihood, VW will not have the final production of the MK8 Golf R without any sort of audible enjoyment. but definitely never gonna be the wookie.
I guess you just won’t drive a car any more. Vehicle manufacturers are getting rid of manuals slowly, just like the internal combustion engine will slowly fade away.
Thomas Tetzlaff from VW Canada confirmed in a livestream today with Everyday Reviews that the Mk8 R will have a sunroof and have a manual option. https://youtu.be/A9hC771x9wg

Obviously with the GTI now coming from the same production facility, the USA certification of the structure with and without SR will not be an issue like the Mk7.

Thank you for confirming
that the 2022 Golf R will be offered with manual transmission stateside. All the German Auto Motor und Sport articles I read had me thinking they would offer it as nothing was mentioned to the contrary, but then I saw some British youtuber stating there would only be DSG while referencing some car websites I am not familiar with. I started panicking and came here... thanks!
The enthusiasts in North America ensured that manual transmission will be offered. According to Tetzlaff the take rate was 50% for manual transmission in Canada. In the US it was 40/60 for the GTI with a take rate of 40% for manual transmission. I think it’s also awesome that the new Porsche 911 is being offered with a 7 spd manual transmission in the US as well. Volkswagen really takes care of the enthusiasts in the US. I am stoked that I will be able to replace my GTI with a 2022 Golf R with manual transmission. Hells Yeah!
