Does anyone have any insight into the next gen GX? Seems like there is a ton of confusion between the incoming TX and GX. I'm inclined to say that the TX is in the shot of the electric event that Toyota held a while ago that also had a shot of the Electric Tacoma. There are a couple of three row SUVs in front of the Tacoma looking truck with Toyota and Lexus badges. Here is a shot of that. There is also a similar looking Toyota in front of this one that is likely the Grand Highlander. Given production should start on the GH mid next year, you'd think Toyota will announce something soon. If so, it would mostly confirm that this is the TX and the second image is the GX.

As for the GX, I still feel it is likely to be this render given it aligns pretty closely with the current generation with some slight tweaks. Carmaker1 also alluded to this fact elsewhere on the 4runner forums. Regardless, we put a deposit on one up here in Canada - simply curious if others have insight.

i haven't heard much yet on what comes next for the GX, i'm very interested though and honestly, would be great to upgrade our current 16mpg GX to a new one that does a little better and has slightly newer tech. particularly while used values are so good.
Heard that next gen GX will be built on TNGA platform - same as Tundra/Sequoia/LC/LX. GX will get same 3.4TT V6. So, don't look for great fuel economy even if it gets hybrid version, IMO. Should still be a capable off-road machine while finally getting much needed improvements in tech & materials.

I have an insider source who tells me ToyotaJP wants to get 25 years out of the current 150 series platform. 4Runner gets a 6 speed auto in 2026.

Yeah, we are on a lease that is up in spring 2024, so it should coincide well with when this is released assuming there are no further delays. This should be the last year of the current model. To the other post, I too have heard it will be a detuned V6 from the Tundra coming in with lower figures than the LX. There are some rumours that Lexus may want something more boxy to compete with the Defender and G-wagon, but I think the last render makes more sense and aligns pretty closely with the current model with slight tweaks.

a defender competitor with the turbo 6 would be very fun. i tend to find the GX to be the swiss army knife of SUVs, it's good at nearly everything, but not perfect or great for a lot. it's a great car to own as a result, very capable and i hope the replacement is just as good.

I have something to report, but I only ask that my source for this info, forgive me for going public on it and not keeping it quiet. According to them, the GX hasn't been shown at all publicly, so the vehicle I referred to as the GX 550, isn't that at all. It's the TX. The next 4Runner, will enter production in 20 months time for MY 2025. The GX and Prado are 1 year away from launch, per internal scheduling. Why there are no spy shots yet, is a mystery to me. GX according to the Lexus side of things, is a huge favorite among many.

Marketing decisions for this vehicle, give me the idea this is what Lexus might have in mind.

Current GX 460 North American Demographic:

Food Tableware Table Sharing Cabinetry

I'll post the likely intended demographic by Lexus, for the next GX (550) if everything I have been hearing since last year is dead accurate to this day. Here's a hint BTW:

Examples of the above is the target, but absolutely from affluent backgrounds. A different kind of customer who idealizes the G-Class ($$$) and Defender I6/V8 ($$), but not necessarily as socially conservative as the current GX demo in terms of their demeanor and lifestyle. I am personally somewhat in between both the old (GX 460) and likely new demo for the GX 550 (I lean more towards the former group). My partner is much closer to the new demographic (well outside of work that is).

The 2024 GX itself, was revealed to the Lexus USA National Dealer body on February 10, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada and that is where most of the styling information comes from. The design was as good as done in 2020, but I do hope it won't fall victim to obsolescence before it launches midway through MY2024. A very, very "sharp" design that allegedly harkens back to the 76-Series, but in modern form. That is what Lexus people say, unofficially.

I’m told ToyMoCo has spent millions on UGGs and pumpkin spice lattes to better understand the luxury 4x4 clientele.

Crazy that there isn't any renderings in the wild for this thing. Hasn't info on the Prado recently surfaced down under or am I thinking of something else?
Guy at a Lexus pop up told me earlier this year it’ll be “Lexus’s version of a Mercedes G wagon”. Take that how you want, but that sounded great to me.
What's going on in this thread? lol

I have no doubt that Lexus NA understands the "demographic" and that the overland scene is a money printer, but they aren't developing the vehicles Toyota is. It's still a Prado (170 chassis? maybe?) and TNGA underneath.

If they're doing the math right, the 4Runner will be the lightweight, PHEV 4 cylinder one and the GX will have a bigger motor, bigger body, and 3 rows with all the specs to back it up (GVWR, towing, roof load, etc). We'll see.

No one is debating that. Automaker1, who's inside knowledge has repeatedly been very accurate and insightful, was just merely showing us that the next GX will be very focused on the overlanding crowd with styling and options to match. It won't look like the current one which in stock form clearly gives off the luxury SUV look.

Hope it doesn't look like that because that looks like a bloody subaru forester.

Thank you as always. I'm very pleased to have correctly stated as early as either 2020 or September 2021, that GX launch was December 2023. Many didn't believe me, but I do my best to provide correct information.

Lexus have leaked these internal plans and finally proven me right once again.

Plus, a redesigned Toyota segment leader will be revealed in 4 weeks on the same architecture.

Veiled prototype 2024 TX from late 2021, which I briefly mistook for the GX several months ago based on some PMed info. I was proven wrong and then chided by some Lexus experts/insiders on a forum (in absentia) for my blunder.

As I said originally, the GX is much boxier than this and will touch $90k fully loaded. It will be the Lexus Defender. TX will reach $80k, in TX550h PHEV form this December. Below that is the TX 500h, launching in September.
