220 km/h thats it???????

I am kind of new to the dub scene. I just bought it a couple of months ago. Anyways, I heard that the top end was incredible! So the other day I take my car on HWY 407. only to find out that my car will not pass 220 km/h and i was in 5 gear with lots of revs left. I know vr6's have rev limiters at like 7K but i was not even near the limiter. What can i do to make it go fast? CHIP?

Yeah, the 407 is a nice highway to do that on. Really smooth and the traffic moves. 220km/h ain't bad, whether it is its topspeed or not. As yourself, when will you ever drive that fast or race someone up to that speed and hold it.
For me, I would rather have a car that could cruise nicely at about 140-160km/h at lower revs. If I were you I would concentrate on how fast you can get to 220km/h and not how fast you can go topspeed.
Anyhoo, dubs dem lovin'
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (Bagchus)

get a chip...trust me a vr can go faster than 220, heck my 2.slow can go pretty close to that...like around 207...and dude, i love your car, the jazz blue vr has got to be mk3's flagship

The car is fast and all, I just wanted to test the limits incase i ever have to. It is just that my friend has a type R and thinks he can beat me. Iknow the ITR will beat me out of the hole. But on the highway i always thought my car was faster, now i am afraid to race him b/c my car shuts down at 220km/h!!!!!

220? That is strange. Jason and I hit an indicated 235 km/hr on the 401 heading to the Detroit Autoshow last year.
For those that know Southern Ontario, we made it from Guelph to the Parkade on top of the Cobo Hall in 2 hours, 10 minutes. No word of a lie. Not bad, eh?

Actually from what I've read, a VR6 will run even with an ITR stock for stock, and pretty much mod for mod (say intake, chip & exhaust.) You won't pull on the Integra, but he isn't going to walk you either. With cams and/or some S/C magic in your VW the acura is spent though

Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (jazzblu{vr6})

Ok... 220kph is a hair under 137mph... The VR6 VW's have a factory top-end limiter at 140mph, I'd say you're close enough to say whats ailing you is the factory limiter (figuring in speedo discrepancies and tire variations) If you really need to go faster, you will need to get an aftermarket chip that has that limiter removed. By the way, make sure your tires are rated for that speed, and that you are on a piece of pavement that has conditions that permit that speed, and that you know how to handle your car at that speed, and how to react when something goes wrong... I'd hate to hear about a V-dubber splattered all over the highway, or hauled off to the clink w/o a drivers license for a few months/years.
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (LangsamKafer)

actually i think the VR6's are limited to 130 mph from the factory (not sure KM) since they come stock with HR rated tires. anyway, a chip will cure what ailes you...
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (Jeff43)

I thought that the factory chip turned off at around 133 mph so whatever that is in km's you got me.....
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (Jeff43)

Well... I generalized from an experience in a 92 Corrado SLC... it maxed out at 140mph. I assumed the other VR6 would be the same, my bad.
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (jazzblu{vr6})

Not that i want to take my car to those speeds all the time. I just wanted to see how fast my car will take me stock. So if I get a chip, what will my new redline be, will it have a higher top end. Oh yeah who makes the best chip out there? Price too!
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (LangsamKafer)

the corrado's may have had a higher limiter and better tires...i should know, my best friend had 2 of them, but i don't...didn't mean to split hairs...
as for the chip Garret ( http://www.giac-usa.com ) is really popular here, so is the TT ( http://www.tttuning.com ). i think they are both about $100-$125 USD. personally, i've got the garret and love it. rev limiter bumped to 7200 RPMs and no top speed limiter. all other info is on their site. - J43
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (jazzblu{vr6})

The general consensus on chips for the VR6 is the GIAC/Garrett chip. There are a lot of other companies who make them, so keep your eyes open. I own a 2.0, so I'm not sure how much the Garrett costs...

Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (collins_tc)

I like my GIAC Garrett chip, but I can not tell you about the top speed, because I have never had it over 125 mph
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (climbingcue)

you need a chip, looks like you ran into the limiter there. with a GIAC chip you should see 7300rpm and with your gearing 152mph

My tack only reads to 7k, so if i get a chip that means that I can go past what my tackometer reads. How will i know that i am @ 7200 rpm

So if i do get a chip. I should still stay within the stock redline or can i pass it a bit???
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (jazzblu{vr6})

Me againt an ITR on the HWY from 120-220...we were neck and neck!!
It's my buddy's car so i know he was pushing it!! My car is a heavy slob...but moves on the open road!
Re: 220 km/h thats it??????? (vrsik)

Why the **** do you need it to go faster? What's wrong with you? Personally, I would want a close-ratio gearbox that would only give me a top end of say 160km/h because there's no need to go faster on the roads.. and it would accelerate a lot better
