Anyone running this on an 18x8 wheel with an offset of 35? I am thinking about this for my GTI and REs but I want to make sure that this will NOT rub anything up front. I plan on going with a suspension setup as well - H&R Cup Kit or Coilovers. As I stated though i want to make sure that if I run 235s up front I will have no issues.
Oettinger recommends 225 but I want as much as I can get WITHOUT spacers

But they also sugest that you can run 245 in rear and 225 in front. I do not want to mix - rotation issues etc.
Would love to hear if someone is running them as stated.... or at least something close.

Pics??
TIA

The proper size in 18s and 40 profile is 225, if you want 235 you have to go with 35 profile. If dont match external wheel (tire/rim) diameter with the stock you will screw up speedo and odo readings.

I was always under the impressions that the 235 referred to the width of the wheel. If that's the case how would that affect the diameter?
Again, I don't know much about wheels, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers.

I am not as concerned with trying to retain the stock size so that I do not screw up the speedo as I am with protecting my wheels. Running a profile of 40 will give me a little more road protection... and that is my concern with the 18s.
If I choose to do that I want to know if anyone has this setup and if they have experienced and rubbing under the front side of the car. I suspect that there would be no fender issue but I am wondering if this width will get in the way of the suspension or other components.
BTW... even with a profile of 35 it, is going to be a different diameter than stock... that is if we are really splitting hairs.

235 does refer to the width. What he is saying though is that the profile 35 vs 40 will affect the diameter. This is correct. The profile will affect the diameter of the wheel and thus the speedo. I am more concerned with protection of the wheel than I am with retaining the exact speedo. Hence the reason I want to run a profile of 40.
Personal preference.

You shouldn't have a problem running 235s up front on a 8" wide rim with ET35. Only place I could see a slight possibilty of rubbing is with the coil overs as they are a bit thicker. Otherwise you should be ok. Anways, you could always get some spacer for the front if you needed too.

I could get spacers but I am really wanting to avoid that. No offense to those that have them
. Do you think that there would be any rubbing issues if I ran with the Cup Kit vs. the coilovers?
That is a big boost of confidence though. I am definately thinking about running 235s now. Anyone else think that I might have issues... or non issues?
Thanks for the info Anthony.

can't you just find a friendly neighborhood wheel/tire shop to pop a 235 on there for you and see...if it doesn't work you just get the 225s...it would really probably only cost you a little extra for their time.....

I could certainly do that.
Or better yet... I could just find a friendly Vortexer that is running that size and ask him. What do you think would be the easiest thing to do?

One more point of interest is that I am also wanting to know if anyone is running this tire size with a suspension and if they are, are they having issues. You see, I am not able to throw on coilovers and then the tire to see if it all is going to work. For now I am stuck with stock sport and I want to make sure that I "upgrade" smoothly.....

I have 18X8.5 35 offset with 225/40's and coilovers.
With 5mm spacers in the front, the coil perches and the wheel are about 5mm separated. Close, but it's a fixed distance and it's fine.
5mm spacers still gives you hubecentricity, so keep it as an idea.
I think you'll be damn close w/out spacers.

Now... is your tire 5mm away from the spring, or the rim? I remember with my 8.5" wide quicksilvers, the tire was pretty stretched across the rim, and the edge of my wheel was about 1mm away from the strut. I couldn't git a penny between the two. Now I bet I could have fit a 235 tire on there though, cause the tire was so stretched.... Who knows

The closest point is the tire wall and the spring perch...just happens to be where the perch happens to be for the drop I want. Yes, the 225's are stretched. Flush, not arc'ed inward...but I have a "finger's" worth of room.

Well I think that I am going to go for it. 235/40 - 18s that is. If what you are saying, and if I understand you correctly:
10mm does not eqaul a half inch, so I should have room.
Meaning, my wheels are 18x8 vs 18x8.5...which is what you were running. Given that you had enough room (barely) for a penny, I should be ok. Here is further evidence to my reasoning:
10 Millimeters equals 0.393701 Inches
Given that the above conversion is less than the half inch that I am giving up with my wheels (8 vs 8.5 - yours) I should be fine.
I wonder why no one else is running this series tire. Seems to me that fatter is better and this should work just fine...stock or lowered....without spacers or any other modifications

That is assuming I am right... and you know what they say about assumptions....

Re: 235/40 - 18... (JerBer)

One last bump.... I am hoping that someone that is running this is going to see this and say..."Oh yeah... no problemo."
Still cannot figure out why this is not a more common setup

Am I of my rocker or something???
I guess I will be the one to say good to go or not....Update will be coming the moment I can afford to wrap my REs. Would be doing it but I had to get the wife her wheels and tires for Christmas too ya know!

Here goes......
