Anyone has done this? 3" cat/ 3" downpipe and stock exhaust? Just curious on what the gains would be ... Anyone has a dyno of this setup?
Thanks!

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

My friends S4 is like that right now cuz his custom exhaust wont fit with the apr downpipes and it sounds like RICE plus there is not much performance gain it only cut down .2 seconds on his quarter mile time
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (GTI's4ever)

No gains? Are you sure? I doubt that ...
Anyone else has any idea on the difference on HP from having stock catback instead of 3" catback together with the 3" dp and 3" cat ... will I loose a lot of HP using the stock exhaust? The one I have now is a little too loud for my taste so I might consider this route ...

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

I've not run that way, I did my whole exhaust all at one time... 3" DP, test pipe, and Magnaflow cat-back...
However, I would guess that just with the DP & HF Cat, you'd be talking somewhere around 10-12HP... if you add a cat-back, you can make that 18-20HP total, at the high end....
I'm not really sure though as very few people do a DP & HF Cat without a cat-back system... but there WOULD be gains for sure.... there are a lot of 2.7T local guys with S4's who run APR chip and downpipes, with no other mods... the power difference is HUGE - you can feel it!
G'luck!

im putting my 1.8 on the table tomorrow morning,it has the FM DP and cat with the stock exhaust.either email me or send me an im to remind me on sat afternoon and ill let you know what it turns out.
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (silentA3)

Hey Senna,
I am currently running the exact setup your describing. I'll be at the GTG tomorrow, if you want to check it out. We can go for a spin.
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (SpeedPunk)

I figure it was worth 10-15HP on my car. Next time I'm able to make the GTG (sorry, house shopping), you can have a ride. Remember, my car isn't even chipped so, it should be a pretty good benchmark for what you get with just a DP.

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (jasonhouse)

I would say at least 20hp 20tq out of my 3"dp and 3"cat
with out a cat i would say 25hp 25tq with stock exhaust
most everyone i have installed has been up to stock exhaust and you can feel it alot.OH and IM talking about a chipped car stock i would say cut that HP in half
i will have a dyno real soon to back it up

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

I have stock diameter piping after a 3"dp/cat and dynoed 198/230 to the wheels.'
Other mods too, of course.
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (wolfsburg_de)

Thanks for all the input! I will decide what I will do very soon. So I wonder catback gives us 10hp? that's it? DP/CAT seems to make the REAL difference here ...

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

That seems to be truth. DP for power, cat back for sound (and extra power with the DP).

Told you bro.

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

my dynos showed 5whp and about 20 torque at the wheels after putting in ATP's 3" DP and their 3" high flow cat with stock exhaust. Of course thats with a chip too. I just got my BMC intake today too (YEAH!!!!) might go dynoing with wolfburg_de tomorrow and see if their 20whp claim is true!!

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

ok i have the dyno sheets but now there is a problem...my scanner is down.im going to try and take a pic of them and see if that comes out but no promises.as far as numbers go this is what happened:
stats on my car- 02 GTI 1.8T with K&N panel,APR chip using stock and 1 bar,and ForcedMotion 3" DP and cat.
run 1-using stock mode in 4th gear 160.7 [email protected] and 178.5 [email protected]
run 2-1 bar in 4th gear 182.8 [email protected] and 210.4 [email protected]
run 3-1 bar in 3rd gear 188.7 [email protected] and 210.1 [email protected]
ok pictures turned out ok i guess,if you want me to email them to you i will, and i would post them but i dont have any where to upload to as of yet, unless someone else wants to do it for me

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (silentA3)

Yep, I'd like to see pics.
You just have our DP and Cat, eh? How does it fit? how did it go on? Do you hear the turbo a LOT more?
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (DaBlackJetta)

all the pipes went up nice and easy,no rubbing which is a surprise considering the size difference between stock and your pipe.as far as hearing the turbo, thats a definate but im starting to get used to it now but this leads me to one problem,my car is no longer a sleeper
but i can live with it,there will be a few ignorant people that wont know what that noise is under the hood.all in all i was guesstimating that i was going to be around 175 hp or so but i was wrong in a good way.

Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (Senna 1.8T)

i ran atp cat/dp w/ my k04 & stock exhaust for a little while until i got my cat-back -- i can't really give you a before & after, 'cuz the k04 was swapped at the same time.
Re: 3" DownPipe/3" Cat/ Stock Exhaust? (silentA3)

i cruised with steve to the dyno day and let me tell you, i am 2 lanes over in traffic and he floors it and all i hear is that friggin turbo. the thing is loud!!! steve maybe that's why that mustang wouldnt play. i need to pick up a downpipe for my car now
