30K VR6 Service: What should I expect?

731 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  mityVR6
What should I expect at my local VW dealer for a 30K service on a 2000 GTI GLX? I have three different dealers to choose from in my area, and one of the dealers quoted a price in excess of $200.00 .
Any details on what should be done to my GTI at 30K would be greatly appreciated.

they should have a list of recommended services in a brochure or something at the stealership, or on a board on the wall. Or you could just ask them. Probably do a tire rotation, adjust the headlights, oil change, plugs, air filter, might change the tranny fluid(at least when I worked at Jiffy Lube we recommended it every 20-30k on most cars), probably hit you up to get your injectors cleaned.

Why not open your owner's manual up and have them do whatever is on the 30k list and anything else you have previously neglected?
I fail to understand why people totally ignore the owner's manual and try to make up their own service schedules.

it does say in the back of the owners manual doesn't it? didn't even think about that. I just replace stuff whenever i feel it needs to be replaced. I don't even pay attention to how many miles I've driven since my last oil change. I just go by the texture and color of the oil. If it is gritty(which it hasn't been yet thankfully) or extremely black, I change it. I figure it lasts about 7k or so. that's with Castrol Syntec though.

YES!
I know when to change my oil, but I tend to go over the 3k mark by about 2k every time
I know the recomendations for various car after working at JiffyLube, so I know how long to go between various flushes for various cars. VWs are one of the only cars we didn't service anything other than oil changes and air filters.

LOL, ok, I had to ask though....some people really do live like that.
One thing that may be overlooked on whoever started this thread's 30k is the snow screen. It needs to be cleaned, every 10-15k from what I've seen.

For crying out loud... you're still under the 100k powertrain warranty so just follow the manual to the letter, keep records, and stop thinking that you can judge your oil's condition by how it looks. They gave you a manual and service schedule for a reason. Use it.
