6,500rpm rev limit...what gives?

594 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Bahnburner
I've got a 1.8l 16v with Euro cam and fuel enrichment and can't understand what's kicking off my fuel relay and imposing a 6,500rpm rev limit. The car used to rev 7k no problem. There is something causing this like a false signal from the KE-Jet box or something. Good plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Any ideas?

Knock box might be going bad. Check for wiring problems (cracking, pinches, cuts) Also id try another fuel pump relay.

That is a possiblity. I replaced a blue fuel pump relay a while back with a black one and it seemed to have a different contact blade arrangement which seemed strange. One could theorize that an 8v KE rocco would have the lower redline and corresponding fuel relay and thus that terminal would have the power cut in the 6,500 range.

IT WAS THE RELAY! I swapped in an old trusty blue relay with the different blade pattern and WHAAAAAA past 7k like nobody's business. I guess that furthers the theory that the KE-Jet brain runs a 6500rpm cutoff to the different relay blade pattern. This might mean that 8v KE-Jet owners might be able to raise their rev limit to 7,200 if so desired by changing relays?
