Re: $700 to fix my sunroof!?! (jazzblu{vr6})
Mine was broken two years ago. I tried to open in when it was frozen shut and one of the cables and a guide broke. Go to the dealership and get a cable kit for it. They aren't cheap, like $150 Canadian. Then do the rest yourself. It's not a difficult job at all. It doesn't require any special tools, just patience, and a clear mind.
The only tricky parts are getting everything back in the way you took it out! Draw a little picture, or number the parts as you remove them, and make sure they go back in the same way. All you have to do is:
- remove the glass
- drop the head liner down
- take the motor off
- take the sunroof frame, etc out
- do your repair
- put it all back!
I didn't have a bentley manual or anything, just figured things out as I went. I also got a photocopy of the micro-fiche schematic that the dealer ship uses to find part numbers from the dealer ship and consulted that when I was putting it all back together..
It's not a bad job at all, it just takes a few hours, maybe an afternoon or something.
Give it a try at least, it sure beats like $800!!!
And if you get half way through and can't finish, then take it to the dealer and have them fix it.. It's not like your trying to do a car imobolizing repair!
