I get this email from my dad last night:

There is a 1995 750 iL (74,000 miles) advertised in the PC in Columbia for $18,795. Should I consider this or hold out for the E500?
How many horsepower does the 750 have? Where may I find statistics? Will it have any resale value? Is it rare? Is it a collectible?
I hope you are having a great day!

He's been watching for an early 1990's Benz E500... but I love the styling of the old 740/750s...

It won't be anywhere near as collectible as the E500. Hold out for what you really want - it usually works out better in the end.

Totally different cars... the 750il is a whole class up, plus it's the LWB model. The rough equivalent to the E500/500E would be an M5.
Tom's right, even by pure production numbers, the 750il will not be as collectable as a nice E500/500E. Different cars with a different intention.

Right. The other problem is that the 750 is a bit of an oddball - it suffers in resale due to its perceived complexity, while it doesn't offer much more than the really good 740.
But the rare E500 with its Porsche ties is a totally different kettle o'fish...

I agree with y'all that the cars are different, but are they really totally different?
In my father's eyes, he's looking for a german 4 door vehicle with great performance and some distinction. Both cars meet that criteria. Granted the 7 is more luxury & the benz is more sport (hehe, in BMW v benz that's usually the other way around
)
I talked to him this afternoon though, and we're going to hold out for the E500 - that's a car that will hold its resale value much better, and have a nice uniqueness that the 7er just can't match.

E500!!!!!! those are some of the slickest benz out there, and they are pretty decievingly fast. i would say stick with the 500.
