I lost the power brakes on my caddy. The line from the vacuum pump to the booster looks good. I disconnected the hose at the pump and there was some vacuum when I put my finger over the hole. How much vacuum should there be? There is a t-fitting to attach a gauge. I assume you need to plug the booster end of the hose to test. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?

Re: 81 Caddy Diesel Brake Vacuum (ctmulder)

You should have at least 20" of vacuum at the brake booster at idle... approximately the same as the manifold vacuum you'd expect from a gasser.
There are two styles of vacuum pump... one with rotors which rarely has a problem and an older style with a diaphragm that can break.
We'll hope it's the vacuum pump and not the booster... evidently Caddy boosters are NLA and getting hard to find.
