i've been trying to lower the idle on my scirocco for a little while now; tried adjusting/replacing idle screws. i think it's a vacuum leak. i replaced a short 2''-3'' hose coming out of the throttle body that was collapsed but the problem persists. any suggestions on what to look for would be appreciated.

Re: 82 scirocco - high idle (82scirocco)

Check boots for cracks, leaks also make sure boots are clamped TIGHT. Injector o-rings could cause this too.

Re: 82 scirocco - high idle (82scirocco)

Check for a Auxiliary Air Valve that is stuck open. It is bolted to the back of the intake manifold, on the passenger side. If it is stuck open, it allows additional metered air into the intake tract, increasing the idle. It should be open when the engine is cold, and the valve should close when the engine has been on for a few minutes.
