When my cabby is warm I have noticed that the idle will slowly creep up to the 1000 rpm mark and then die down to about 700-800 and then slowly creep back up and then die down again. It does this constantly. Any idea how I could get this thing
to idle at one constant RPM? It's not a big problem but I would still like to fix it eventually.
Thanks for any ideas anyone may have.

Vacuum leak? Check the o-ring around the idle adjustment screw. A new screw from VW is not expensive at all and it comes with new o-ring. Check all vacuum lines around the intake and running to and from the vacuum reservoir. Vacuum line is not too pricey either. Mav.

quote:

Thanks. The car does have a vaccum leak causing the AC/heat to not work. Any other bright ideas out there?

check your vacuum leak starting at the balls under the hood and work your way down from there. There's a grommet in the vacuum resevoir most people miss...

Re: 89 cabby...idle probs (PDX Cabby)

if you have some starting fluid, spray a litte on each vaccum line while the car is running... if the idle goes up when you spray on it, that;s where the leak is
do not spray it on your distributor or exhaust manifold, it will catch fire,,,, only for a second or two... enough to scare ya
