does anyone know if you can drop a 8v 2lt mkIII engine straight into a mkII?
any suggestions please

not sure what you mean but its not slow just dieing so i have a mkIII thats sat outside and not doing alot since i crashed it but the heart is still good!!

Yes, the 2.0 liter ABA swap (mkIII) is a very popular swap. If you have the whole mkIII car available for parts, you are pretty much set. Lots of info in the archives, just do a search and you should be able to find answers to just about any question. Here is a pic of my GTI with the swap you're asking about:

not a bad swap, 8vs are swell engines. but as the saying always goes, 16 valves are better than 8.

yeah, but 12 valves are more than 16... $hit

and yes, you can do the swap easily. my cousin used to rally a 91 gti w/an aba swap. its not a bad engine when its not in a mk3 hog.
edit:i dont really know a lot about durability of mk4 2.0's, but an obd 1 aba, even with higher miles, is still a reliable/tough engine

16v are better on high end 8v are better in low end turbo both and i think the 16v comes out on top. i think the 8v are way less maintenance. my 16v has more issues than a crack whore.

x1000 - thats why im dumping thousands into my 1.8 8v - call me crazy but i like simple cars
