Can I run this engine standing straight up? I was just told I couldn't. I got it out of an old offroad baja racecar and this is how they ran it.

What do you mean by standing up? It's an upright flat four, not a boxer. The main difference changing its angle will make is to the amount of transmission fluid you need to fill. See the discussion about engine angle toward the bottom of this page: 020 Oil

I'm running a bug transmission so all good there. The stock 8v engine angles towards the firewall in a car. The adapter plate I have can be used that way or clocked like I have it with the block straight up. The guy I got it from raced it that way for years. I'm just curious if I'm going to have oiling problems.

No I think they're used in A2 applications straight up and down.

they are slanted for clearance under the hood. the SuperVee water cooled all ran straight up. The real issue is manifolds and it appears you have that taken care of.
