Re: 8v won't start - I think my timing belt slipped ... (DriveVW4Life)

Nope, probably not. I'm assuming the teeth are off of the belt, and not the cam gear

Oh, unless you have a crazy cam, then you might have hit valves...most likely no problem though.
Why did it strip it? Loose tensioner? Something sieze up in the engine? How and when did it break anyway?

Re: 8v won't start - I think my timing belt slipped ... (Broke)

This is how I slipped my belt:
I was in rush hour traffic shifting in and out of first for about 30 minutes. I had it in first and without thinking, I let the clutch out. The car stalled and I tried to start it back up, but it didn't start. Once I got it home (got it towed), I diagnosed the problem and found it was my belt.
I blame the slipping of the belt, on the belt. I took the cover offand I saw that the belt was cracked, was missing teeth and had little tension.
Too bad it had to slip ... I was going to put the car up for sale.

valves should be fine. 8v is non-interference, unless you've either machined the heck out of your head, or somehow made valves go in farther. New timing belts are only 20 bucks or so, just time consuming to replace.
